How Do We Handle Quality Inspection?

When our new overseas clients ask us to source building materials and furniture in China, they’re not sure what we will do to inspect their goods. Will we go to the factory and check the goods in person? Do we just take a quick look at the appearance? Or maybe just spot-checking a few random samples?

Yes, we go to the factories and inspect the goods in person, to save you from facing bulk issues after the goods arrive at the port. Today, we’re going to break it down.

When Do We Start the Inspection?

Typically we require the suppliers to inform us when the production is finished and leave the goods unpacked till we say yes after conducting on-site inspections.

If we go too early, some items aren’t ready. Samples won’t represent the whole batch. And we’re unable to verify the quantity. If we go too late, it may delay the shipment if any issues are found and need rework.

What Do We Check?

Visual Check: We scan the goods with our eyes to check the appearance, including the materials, color, texture, and craftmanship. We make sure there are no common defects such as blisters, whitened patterns, or local delamination.

Measurements & Tolerances: We take tape measures along with us in order to check length, width, thickness, and diagonals. For panels, we also test for warping or bending. All in all, everything must stay within tolerance range. This prevents gaps or fitting issues during installation.

Craftsmanship & Function Check: Besides appearance and size, we also inspect bonding quality, edge banding workmanship, quantity, and specs. For electrical appliances, we also require the factory for a power-on test. For custom products, we check against the colour swatch to make sure the colour is correct, and all holes and slots with drawings to ensure they fit exactly.

Packaging Check: Cross-border procurement often involves long-distance transportation, which requires secure and sturdy packaging. During the on-site inspection, we also check the packaging. If it’s not solid enough, we will request corresponding adjustments to reduce the risk damages during delivery.

We take photos and videos for records, which we’ll carefully document. If problems come up, we’ll let you know and work on a solution. And we’ll organize a full inspection report with real photos, and separately share videos when necessary, giving you everything you need to make a confident shipment decision.

Yet there’s something important to understand. Inspection doesn’t mean zero defects, but it does mean catching problems early and resolving them before the goods leave the factory. You won’t find out the products are wrong or have many quality issues on arrival.

Of course, quality control doesn’t need to be a separate, complicated step. It’s built right into the sourcing process from the start.

That’s exactly how we work. Quality checks are woven into every project we handle for our clients, from factory vetting and visiting till the goods are completed and shipped. It’s all part of one seamless process.
